Notion is really great for journaling or keeping a diary. I previously recorded vast amounts of daily information about myself and I’ve found that although initially useful, in the end I wasn’t seeing the point of it all. Instead, I’ve honed down a narrower list of details I want to log daily and keep track of. These I share with you in my template below. The fab thing about Notion though is if you don’t agree or if you want to add more information to log - you can!
So, what do I like to record on my daily log:
Name: I give each day a name. A very brief summary name that in many cases is as simple as ‘Tues in Sept’ but could also be something like ‘First day of new job’.
Date: Kind of obvious really… It might just be me, but I find it fascinating diving back to a random date in the past to see what I was up to.
Memorable moments: This is where I write my diary entry. What did I do today? What stood out? What were my reflections? What were the kids up to?
Mood: I use tags to select common moods, for example ‘frustrated’, ‘happy’, ‘stressed’, ‘tired’. Quick and easy to complete and useful for spotting overall trends in your mood.
Health: Again, I use tags to summarise my health on any given day. These might include ‘stomach ache’, ‘sore throat’, ‘cough’. Really useful in the long term for seeing how long you may have been feeling a certain way, or how often you experience particular health issues.
What did I eat? I use free text to briefly jot down what I had for my main three meals of the day. An example might be: Toast. Cheese baguette. Pizza. This is an area you can expand upon and record in much deeper detail if you were, for example, monitoring your diet.
Alcohol? I use tags to select any alcohol I have consumed.
Exercise? I use tags again to select any exercise I have participated in. It can be very motivating to see a huge gap in your exercise routine that needs filling!
